Muzio toured extensively as a conductor, giving first performances of several Verdi operas in France and in the USA. In the early 1870s, Muzio became the conductor of the Theatre Italien in Paris, which was experiencing financial difficulties (referred in the present letter) that led to its closure later in the decade.
