Introduced at the end of WWI and in use up through WWII, this is a very nice U. S. Marine Corps Square Entrenching Machete, made by Disston and still with its original scabbard. These were intended to cut through brush as well as the ground to help secure a foothold during action. They were often used by landing forces to help quickly make a nice emplacement. The blade on this example is in very good condition, and
